Population pyramids

Today in human geography class we watch a video called “Population pyramids: Powerful predictors of the future”. It talk about the population in China, Russia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Canada, Japan and United State. Each country have a population pyramid. In the population pyramid, male is in one side and female is in other side. The population number is show each five year age interval. Starting in zero to four and continue up to 100 and uup. This is about age and gender distribution. Some country have many young people and some country have many old people.

The population is developed countries are in a slowly speed. And in developing country, the population growing speed are very fast.

Chinese people and social.  Today in human geography class will learn about people and social about different country like China.China is a big country with 13 billion people. I think there are some reason maybe can explain why China have a big population. As we all kwon, China is agricultural country. So they earn money with planting crops. They need people to help them reap. So normally in each family they have 4-5 children and most of them are boy because they can help to reap. This resulting in patriarchal and the population rise in a fast speed. There are many localism in China like mandarin and Cantonese. In Guangdong (is a province in China), people can speak both mandarin and Cantonese because Guangdong have many people come from mandarin and they can’t understand Cantonese so we often speck mandarin. You can use mandarin in whole China but you can’t you Cantonese in other province. Each province have they own language but mandarin is universal language.About religion, 18.2% are Buddhist, 5.1% are Christian, 1.8% are Muslim 21.9% are folk religion, <.1% are Hindu, <.1% are Jewish and 0.7% are other kind of religion. Chinese population growth rate is 0.44%, birth rate is 12.17births/1,000 population, 7.44 death/1,000 population.

Today in human geography we review the note we learn before.
We talked about immigration, emigration and TFR(Total Fertility Rate). TFR is average number of children born per woman. For a population to remain the same, the TFR must be 2.1. If a country's TFR higher than 2.1, the population rises. If a country's TFR lower than 2.1, the population falls.
There are two forces can make people migrate: push forces and pull forces. Push forces is the forces which coerce people to migration. Pull forces is the forces which attract people to migration.

More measurements of population
Net migration rate: the difference between the number of persons entering and leaving a country during a year.

An excess of persons entering the country is net immigration.

Why do people migrate?
Push forces
-        civil war
-        environmental degradation
-        unemployment or undenemployment
-        religious or ethnic persecution
pull forces
-        better enconomic opportunity
-        better health services
-        religious freedom
-        political freedom

total Fertility Rate (TFR)
TFR: average number of children born per women.

For a population to remain the same, the TFR must be 2.1
Higher than 2.1: population rises
Lower than 2.1: population falls

World TFR 2.47 (2.54 two years ago)
US TFR: 2.06
Nigeria TFR: 5.38

Japan TFR: 1.39

The human geography test in today

Today we have human geography test. I think the test is difficult for me even I can use translator and note. I have found so many problem in this test.
I try to find “what happen in 508 B.C” but I can’t found any information about this. Also, there is a question about Socrates (I forget the problem, I think is about “the death of Socrates”). I thought a long time but I still can’t found anything in my mind.
I guess I will not pass this test.

2014年9月15日星期一

Today human geography Mr. Schick help us to prepare the test. This test is in Wednesday this week. OMG!!!!!!

These 4 things will be in test: Message to Garcia, Ancient Greece, Did You Know? 3.0, Globalization and Americanization. We will also test about the message to Garcia. We should know who delivered the message to Garcia, who wrote it, who was the president during the time and what war was going on during the time it was written.

In ancient Greece, there is a famous philosopher called Socrates. He was a classical Greek philosopher creadited as one of founders of western philosophy. He said:” the unexamined life is not worth living.

This is a idea in video “Did You Know? 3.0” ------ “China will soon become number one English speaking country in the world”. I think the reason is: English is one of the biggest language in the world. Many country use English. And the another reason is, there are more and more people go abroad so they need to have a good language to communicate. So they can use English.

Today in human geography class, we learn some culture about different country. Also, include China. Every time when we talk about China, I feel so exciting. Listen some foreigners evaluation is so interesting.

We talk about the Silk Road and the American fast food restaurant in China. Silk Road is a famous Road in the world. It was been cerate in  140 B.C. China is a big country that time and lots of country bought the things in China. The main is silk. This is why this road called Silk Road.

In China, there are so many American fest restaurant like KFC and McDonald’s. Mr. Schick said there are many America in there but actually not. There are always Chinese in there and most of Chinese are children. If you want to find Americans. I think Starbucks is the best chose.

2014年9月11日星期四

Today is a special day because there is a event happened in 13 years ago. Today is 9.11.

For most of American, today in 13 years ago is a big day. Many people death in the terrorist attacks. Many children lose they parents, lose they friends, they cousin.

We can’t forget 9.11. bless them.

Alright, let me talk about my geography class. We talk about the cell phone and television in many years ago. I can’t imagine if the cell phone can not send the message and have a huge body. Also, I can not imagine if the TV are all black and white, I will be crazy.

Actually, I really want to see what happen when people can send the message to his(her) family or friends in the first time. That must be funny.

DID YOU KNOW

Today we watched a video called "Did You Know". This is a video about the ways that our country and our world is changing. Actually I don't really understand what the video talking about. But when it play the part of China, I feel strange. This is my first time that listen other country persons to talk about my home country. I remember sentence that is "China will soon become the number one English speaking country in the world",I want to say something about this.
we learning English when we are young. For me, I learning English when I was in
Kindergarten
and we have to learn English until we graduate from high school. Why every students in China need to study English. I think is because there are so many country in the world is English speaking country. And there are many people can understand English. So when we talk with foreigners,we can all say English so that we can community more easy.

Today when I went to human geography classroom and Mr. Schick told us we have to sit at our new seat. When we all sat down, some students said “I don’t like this seat”.

And then, I don’t know what happened, they have a speech about “should we change the seat or not”. Some guys speech and it were so funny. In some reason, they wanted Suky to have a speech. Suky said she don’t care. I just wanna say, I don’t care where I sit but I just need to sit with Suky. She seems has same idea with me.

In the end, Mr. Schick agreed us to change our seat. Suky and I didn’t move. But happily, some American students came and sit with us.

Five-Point Action Plan

It is very important for every body to have a good plan. A good plan can have you to know what we should do.

My plan is very simple. But, it is very necessary. First, I should have a good breakfast, because I can't focus when I hungry. So I will miss something in the class, maybe is something significant. Second, have a good sleep every night. Unless, I will feel tired in the next day. Third, review the knowledge in the next day. That can make our Memory Curve become longer. Fourth, hard-working. You can have a great grade in the end of a year if you hard-working and doing homework very well. The last important point is, HAPPY. Happy every day, Happy all the time. To feel every happy things in the world.

The Agora (/ˈæɡərə/Ancient GreekἈγορά Agorá) was a central spot in ancient Greek city-states. The literal meaning of the word is "gathering place" or "assembly". The agora was the center of athletic, artistic, spiritual and political life of the city.[1] The Ancient Agora of Athens was the best-known example.

Arete (/ˈærətiː/Greekἀρετή), in its basic sense, means "excellence of any kind".[1] The term may also mean "moral virtue".[1] In its earliest appearance in Greek, this notion of excellence was ultimately bound up with the notion of the fulfillment of purpose or function: the act of living up to one's full potential.

Polis (/ˈpɒlɨs/Greekπόλις [pólis]), plural poleis (/ˈpɒleɪz/πόλεις [póleːs]) literally means city in Greek. It can also mean citizenship and body of citizens. In modern historiography, polis is normally used to indicate the ancient Greek city-states, like Classical Athens and its contemporaries, and thus is often translated as "city-state".

The year 508 BC was a year of the pre-Julian Roman calendar. In the Roman Empire it was known as the Year of the Consulship of Poplicola and Tricipitinus (or, less frequently, year 246 Ab urbe condita). The denomination 508 BC for this year has been used since the early medieval period, when the Anno Domini calendar era became the prevalent method in Europe for naming years.

Socrates (/ˈsɒkrətiːz/;[2] GreekΣωκράτης Sōkrátēs [sɔːkrátɛːs]; 470/469 BC – 399 BC)[1] was a classical Greek (Athenianphilosopher credited as one of the founders of Western philosophy. He is an enigmatic figure known chiefly through the accounts of classical writers, especially the writings of his students Platoand Xenophon and the plays of his contemporary Aristophanes

The Death of Socrates (FrenchLa Mort de Socrate) is a 1787 oil on canvas painting by the French painter Jacques-Louis David. Like many of his works from that decade, the painting focuses on a classical subject, in this case the story of the execution of Socrates, as told by Plato in hisPhaedo.[1][2] In this story, Socrates has been convicted of corrupting the youth of Athens and introducing strange gods, and has been sentenced to die by drinking poison hemlock. Socrates, rather than fleeing when the opportunity arises, uses his death as a final lesson for his pupils, and faces it calmly.[3]

Socratic method (also known as method of elenchuselenctic method, or Socratic debate), named after the classical Greek philosopher Socrates, is a form of inquiry and discussion between individuals, based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and to illuminate ideas. It is adialectical method, often involving a discussion in which the defense of one point of view is questioned; one participant may lead another to contradict himself in some way, thus strengthening the inquirer's own point

If the ancient Greeks people called me idiot it means you are a private person .

the second week

This is my second week in John Carroll. I feel very happy and excited in America and I even no longer dislike school. Strange right?!

Today is Wednesday, and I called it black Wednesday because I have 7 classes today and I just have 20 min for lunch. This 20 min including eating lunch, go to toilet, go to my locker, and walk. Overall, a complete busy day.

Well, as an international students, we have another class called English for international students. And today, we had a test for TOFEL words. I hate TOFEL. Why all the international students in English country have to go to get TOFEL test. why the other country students come to China do not have to get some difficult test in Chinese. This is no fire. Anyway, we had a dictation today afternoon and I thought I did it well. Maybe one or two of them is wrong.

Today after school, I stayed in the school cafeteria and doing my homework. Also, I was waiting my host mom. I tried to finish my Algebra homework at the school. But I didn’t. when I almost finish it, I have to go to my host mom office.

I have a busy day. And I get lots of homework today. Now I am going to do my homework. Byebye~~~~
